A 2-18 to 0-20 victory over Roscrea in Ballingarry in the fourth round keeps us in the hunt for a place in the semi-final. MacDonaghs had the aid of the light breeze in the first and were quickly into their stride with a brace of points from Declan Barrett and one from Martin Grace. After ten minutes the sides were level on 0-4 each. Niall Shinners slotted over a point from a free and he struck a decisive blow in the 12th minute with a green flag. Pat Conway found the net in the 29th minute to leave the Magpies 2-10 to 0-11 points ahead at the break.

Roscrea enjoyed a greater share of the possession in the second half but found the MacDonaghs defence in a stubborn mood. At the other end  our forwards kept the scoreboard ticking over. In the 59th minute the Roscrea keeper Enda Moloney blazed a penalty over the bar and this was the closest they came to finding the net. Niall Shinners had the final say when he was on target from a 65.

In the final round Knockshegowna will provide the opposition this weekend. Fixture details to be confirmed.

Team: Thomas Williams, Brendan McAdams, Gavin McAvinchey (Capt), Oisín O’Meara, Martin Grace (0-1), Tomás Hogan, Conor Austin, Caoilainn Conroy (0-1), Shane Williams, Mark O’Neill (0-1), Justin Cahill (0-5), Declan Barrett (0-3), Tom Dooley, Niall Shinners (1-7), Pat Conway (1-0). In the quarter-final of the ‘A’ championship we had to give second best to a very good Borris-Ileigh team on a 3-7 to 1-5 scoreline. We led up to the final quarter, but the home side finished strongly and were deserving winners. Our second team recorded a 5-2 to 1-4 home victory over Newport in the latest round of the championship.

Our teams had mixed fortunes last week. In the ‘A’ quarter-final our first team gave a very good account of themselves before losing out to Borris-Ileigh in MacDonagh Park on a 3-8 to 2-6 scoreline. Our second team got the better of Portroe in Ardcroney and now face Kiladangan in the semi-final.
