We had mixed fortunes in the opening rounds of the championship. We had to give second best to Toomevara in St. Michael’s Park and came out the wrong side of a 5-19 to 4-8 scoreline.

Team: Dara Gaynor, Conor McGrath, Jack Cleary, Shay Óg Kennedy, James Gould, Hugo Healy, Stasic Setikas, Cormac Kennedy (1-3, 0-2 frees), Gerard O’Looney, Charlie Kennedy (0-2 frees), Tommy O’Meara (1-0), Paraic Nevin (1-0), Tom Campbell, Tommy Gaynor, Andrew Austin (1-3). Subs: Emmet Dwyer, Arman Khan Wahid, Oisín Carroll, Riain Haverty.

MacDonaghs bounced back with a 7-17 to 1-15 home victory over Kiladangan in the second round. The Magpies were always in control and had a commanding 3-14 to 0-6 interval lead. Even when we lost a man overboard early in the second half, the result was never in doubt against a Kiladangan side that kept plugging away until the end.

Team: Dara Gaynor, James Gould, Tommy Gaynor, Conor McGrath, Jack Cleary, Cormac Kennedy (1-3, 0-2 frees), Stasik Setikas, Hugo Healy (0-2), Tommy O’Meara (3-3), Charlie Kennedy (1-5, 0-3 frees), Paraic Nevin, Gerard O’Looney (0-1), Shay Óg Kennedy (2-0), Andrew Austin (0-2), Emmet Dwyer. Subs: Tom Campbell, Arman Khan Wahid, Oisín Carroll (0-1).

We have devised a number of options, silver, gold, diamond and platinum, all aimed at making the initiative accessible to businesses and individuals across our community and further afield. One of the key features of this new initiative is that we will, as a club and as a community, be backing ourselves. Our jerseys  and all club gear will be re-branded with the ‘friendsofmacdonaghs.ie’ logo, and with our new club motto ‘’One Club, One Community’’. For further details, log in to friendsofmacdonaghs.ie, email friendsofmacdonaghs@gmail.com or call 0868145467. To date, we have had a very positive response to this initiative. Every individual and business supporting this initiative will have pride of place on our “Friends of MacDonaghs” wall adjacent to the entrance gate to the pitch.
