MacDonaghs Dubh and MacDonaghs Bán began their campaigns with victories over Roscrea in Ardcroney. Last Saturday, both teams participated in a hurling tournament in Clarecastle. Our Dubh team played two matches where they lost out narrowly in both to Clarecastle & Cuchulainns of Armagh. Team Bán defeated Cuchulainns in their first game. In the second game against Clarecastle, Kilruane led by four points at half time. However Clarecastle scored 2-1 to take the lead with a few minutes to go, but Kilruane fought back with two late goals to win by five points. Cuchulainns and Kilruane qualified for the final as both had defeated the hosts Clarecastle. The final had to be delayed due to the thunder, lightning and heavy rain. When it commenced Cuchulainns got off to a great start scoring 1-2. Kilruane eventually got going but missed a couple of goalscoring opportunities. Kilruane found themselves seven points down midway through the second half and had to go for goals, eventually scoring one through a Lukah Williams free. Congratulations to Cuchulainns, who ran out deserving winners on a scoreline of 1-7 to 1-2. Thanks to Clarecastle for the invitation and the brilliant hospitality. We have devised a number of options, silver, gold, diamond and platinum, all aimed at making the initiative accessible to businesses and individuals across our community and further afield. One of the key features of this new initiative is that we will, as a club and as a community, be backing ourselves. Our jerseys and all club gear will be re-branded with the ‘friendsofmacdonaghs.ie’ logo, and with our new club motto ‘’One Club, One Community’’. For further details, log in to friendsofmacdonaghs.ie, email friendsofmacdonaghs@gmail.com or call 0868145467. To date, we have had a very positive response to this initiative. Every individual and business supporting this initiative will have pride of place on our “Friends of MacDonaghs” wall adjacent to the entrance gate to the pitch.
