Paddy Murray RIP

The club extends sympathy to the family of the late Paddy Murray, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, England, and formerly Templemore Road, Cloughjordan. Paddy captained the 1952 Kilruane MacDonaghs minor team that won the club’s first divisional title in this grade with a 5-0 to 3-3 victory over Nenagh in Nenagh. The same year he captained the minor team to win the 9-a-side Abbot Cup with a victory over Ballyskenagh in the final played in St. Bernard’s Park, Ballyskenagh. Paddy emigrated to England in 1959. He married Kitty O’Reilly, Donard, Wicklow in 1961. They had four children Catherine, Maria, Bernadette and Angela. Paddy spent most of his working life as a milkman. He followed the fortunes of Kilruane MacDonaghs through his online subscription to the local paper, the Nenagh Guardian. Paddy also kept in regular contact with another member of the 1952 team Sean Deane, who now resides in Wimbledon, South London. Sean celebrated his ninetieth birthday last week.

The 1952 minor team lined out as follows in the final: Paddy Murray, Padge Ryan, Sean Deane, Kevin Gaynor, Paddy Ryan, Jimmy Gibson, Alfie Kennedy, Mick Fahy, Joe Burns, Pat Williams, Robert O’Leary, Mikey Ryan, Hubert Killackey, Peter Conway, Ger Hogan. Subs: Des Gaynor, Tommy O’Brien, Tony Grace, Pierce O’Leary, Sean Dwyer, Hubert Lynch, John Ryan.
