Kilruane MacDonaghs Notes Dec-11-2019
The Annual General Meeting of the Juvenile Club takes place in the Clubroom on this Thursday, 12th December at 8.00pm. Everybody interested in the promotion of Gaelic Games in the parish is invited to attend. The club is always seeking new volunteers. Previous playing or coaching experience is not necessary to become involved.
Congratulations to Gary Prout, Ardcroney who won €1,000 and to Carmel Daly who picked up €200 in the December Draw. Promoters and subscribers asked to bring all payments up to date. Thanks to all our loyal members and promoters who help make this a very successful fundraiser for the club.
The annual Tipperary Yearbook is now on sale in Austin’s Centra Store, Cloughjordan at a cost of €15.
Pat McCarthy RIP
The late Pat McCarthy, Coolnamona won a North juvenile (U15) medal in 1951 when MacDonaghs had a victory over Moneygall in Borrisokane. In 1960 he added North and County junior hurling medals with Kilruane getting the better of Ballinahinch in the divisional final and overcoming Moycarkey-Borris in the County decider in Borrisoleigh to become Tipperary champions.
The McCarthy family has made a major contribution to hurling in the parish. Pat’s father Hugh was an outstanding hurler in the 1920s. Pat’s brothers Gerry and Joe won North senior hurling medals in 1959 and 1965 with Gerry captaining the 1959 side. Joe is one of our honorary vice-presidents.
At the funeral club members formed a guard of honour and the coffin was draped in the MacDonaghs colours. As a mark of respect the Tricolour in MacDonagh Park flew at half mast.
To his brothers John, Joe, Gerry & Fr. Michael, sister-in-law Dympna and extended family sympathy is extended.
The club extends sympathy to the family of the late Mary O’Meara (née Kennedy), Cloughkeating.
