Junior ‘A’

In the final group game of the ‘A’ championship, we lost 1-24 to 3-16 against Nenagh in Puckane. We trailed  1-14 to 1-10 at the break. Michael Hennelly had scored the goal in the 16th minute with the a “ Rarely Spotted” ground ball. Johnny Naughnane was forced to depart the scene in the fifth minute with an ankle injury.  In the twelfth minute, Conor Doheny’s goal was disallowed for a square ball infringement – I have seen them given.

Four minutes into the second half, Nenagh opened up an eight-point gap and looked as if they would go out of sight. MacDonaghs kept nibbling away at the lead and goals from Kevin Naughnane (41st minute penalty) and Eoin Caroll (54th minute) set up a grandstand finish. Deep into injury time, Kilruane attacked in search of a fourth green flag, but Nenagh hung on for a two-point victory.

Well done to Tiarnán Casey, who scored 1-2 for the Mid/North football team in the Jim Power Tournament in Dungarvan. Mid/North had victories over Clare and Waterford to win the Bowl Competition.

In the ‘D’ semi-final, we had a terrific tussle with Nenagh Éire Óg in Borrisokane. The result was in the balance up to the final minute, with Nenagh prevailing on a 2-6 to 1-7 scoreline. Our team has made tremendous progress since the start of the year. The players and mentors can be very satisfied with their efforts during the campaign.
