Senior

In the second round of the County championship, we play Borris-Ileigh this Friday, 9th August, in Dolla at 7.15pm. Admission is by ticket or Tap & Go.

Junior

In the quarter-final, we lost 3-19 to 3-13 against Ballinahinch in Nenagh. In the first half, there was nothing in it, like a fridge on a Wednesday. After playing with the light breeze, we led 1-11 to 0-11 at the interval with Jack Mulcahy finding the net in the 31st minute. On the resumption, Oisín O’Meara stretched the advantage to four with a point. Ballinahinch struck a purple patch and hit 3-1 in three minutes to turn the game on its head. MacDonaghs were playing catchup for the remainder of the game and couldn’t reel in Ballinahinch, who were full value for their six-point win. Thanks to the players and management for their efforts during the year.

Minor

In the sixth round of the Minor ‘A’  (U17), we had a 1-14 to1-13 home victory over Borris-Ileigh. As the interval loomed, we led 1-10 to 0-5. Borris-Ileigh struck 1-1 in the closing minutes to leave the scoreboard reading 1-10 to 1-5 at the break. Scores were at a premium in the second half, and with three minutes of normal time Borris-Ileigh left had edged a point ahead. Three late points from Michael Cleary left Kilruane with the minimum to spare at the final whistle.

U15

A 4-15 to 0-18 victory over a very good Nenagh side saw Kilruane MacDonaghs capture the North/West League title in a sun-drenched MacDonagh Park, Cloughjordan that was in pristine condition for the game. This was a competitive encounter between two evenly-matched teams. MacDonaghs thundered into the game at the start with Jack O’Meara steaming through the Nenagh defence to fire over two points. In the 10th minute, Tom Campbell made a rampaging run from the left wing to score a terrific goal to put the Magpies 1-3 to 0-3 ahead. Two more green flags from Hugo Healy in the 16th minute and Gerard O’Looney in the 19th minute helped MacDonaghs into a 3-9 to 0-9 interval lead.  Nenagh were always in touching distance until a fortuitous  goal from Gerard O’Looney in the 51st minute gave Kilruane the advantage down the home stretch. After the game, referee Ger Fitzpatrick presented the trophy to captain Tommy Gaynor.

Team: Dara Gaynor, James Gould, Tadhg Teefey, Mark Cleary, Karl Ryan, Tommy Gaynor (0-2 65s), Kallen Grace, Culann Haverty, Jack O’Meara (0-6), Lukah Williams, Hugo Healy (1-2, 0-2 frees), Tom Campbell (1-2), Gerard O’Looney (2-2), Senan O’Leary, Tarla Doris. Subs: Oisín Carroll (0-1), Emmet Dwyer.

This Thursday, 8th August, the teams meet again in the championship playoff in Nenagh at 6.45pm. The winner advances to the semi-final while the loser goes into the quarter-final.

90th Birthday

Congratulations to Pat Williams, who celebrated his 90th birthday with family and friends in the Faughs GAA Clubhouse in Templeogue last Saturday. Pat is one of the last surviving members of the 1952 Kilruane MacDonaghs minor team that won the club’s inaugural title in this grade. He has a long association with Faughs as a player, administrator and historian. Pat has been domiciled in Coolock for many years but remains a faithful follower of MacDonaghs, attending the 2022 County final, which saw the return of Dan Breen to the parish.

Sympathy

The club extends sympathy to the family of the late Muriel McAuley (née Redmond), Blackrock, Dublin, granddaughter of 1916 leader Thomas MacDonagh.
