Junior

In the first round of the North League, our Junior ‘A’ team came out the wrong side of a 3-20 to 2-19 scoreline against Toomevara in St. Michael’s Park. Páidi Williams opened the scoring with a point in the second minute. Toomevara replied with a Shane Nolan goal a minute later.  The home team had a slight edge in the opening quarter but a bullet from Kevin Shinners rattled the net in the fourteenth minute to put the Magpies a point ahead. On the cusp of half time, Kilruane had a five-point advantage but a goal Shane Nolan from a twenty-metre free left the Greyhounds two adrift at the interval.

On the restart, Shane Cleary surged forward from the defence, took a pass from Brian O’Meara and bisected the posts. In the 35th minute, Shane Nolan blasted a penalty over the bar. In a very tight contest between two evenly matched sides, the scores were level four times in the second half. With six minutes left, Toomevara had a four-point cushion. Brian O’Meara scythed though the home defence to score a terrific goal to leave the minimum between the teams. In the closing minutes, Toomevara engineered three frees which helped them secure the points.

In the second round of the North League, our Junior ‘B’ team recorded a 2-12 to 1-7 victory over Shannon Rovers in MacDonagh Park. We led 1-7 to 0-3 at the break with Jack Quinlisk scoring the goal in the 15th minute after taking a pass from Cormac Mannion. On the resumption, Rovers cut into the lead, and there were just three points between the teams at the end of the third quarter. A  fortuitous Tommy Burriss goal in the 48th minute proved to be the decisive score in chiselling out this victory.
