Covid-19 Support
Our Healthy Club Committee has organised a large cohort of volunteers who are ready and willing to help anybody in the community who needs messages, fuel, prescriptions etc collected. Please contact our co-ordinators Martina 08798902128, Brian 0872535695 or Gilbert 0872176452 in the strictest confidence and we will do our best to help. All our volunteers will be adhering to the HSE Guidelines in relation to Social Distancing and Hand Hygiene.
The club has been registered with the Tipperary Volunteer Centre to assist with the community response to the Covid-19 emergency. We have also linked up with the Cloughjordan Community Response Group. Their contact number is 0876428378. Over 1,000 information leaflets have been distributed throughout the parish.
Skills Challenge
Our young boys and girls are encouraged to keep sending in their videos. The Skills Challenge launched by our Healthy Club Committee has been a phenomenal success. Boys and girls are asked to make a short video which shows them performing hurling or football skills. Some may opt to try the 30 Second Challenge. How many roll lifts can you do in 30 seconds? How many strikes off the wall can you do in 30 seconds? You can enter as often as you wish.
All entries will be put into a draw for the new Kilruane MacDonaghs jersey. This is not a competition to find the best performers. The Healthy Club Committee has decided to offer four of the new Kilruane MacDonaghs jerseys as prizes. There are two jerseys for the boys and two for the girls. In addition, there will be some sliotars to be won. Tag us on Twitter or Facebook or WhatsApp your video to Gilbert 0872176452.
Strike Challenge
Club President Fr. Pat Greed accepted the 30 second Strike Challenge from his former club Clonlara in Clare. He completed the challenge and made his three nominations. In a little over a week the Challenge has caught the imagination of our supporters.
It has been taken up by some mature and very mature supporters. It has spread to other clubs in Tipperary and Magpies in Offaly, Galway, Kildare, Dublin and Belfast have taken up the Challenge. It has also been done in Australia, New Zealand, Quatar, New York and Boston.
Some well-known personalities have taken part including Tommy Dunne, Tipperary team doctor Brendan Murphy, Tipp FM’s Stephen Gleeson, journalist Damian Lawlor, former All-Star Mark O’Leary, MacDonaghs senior manager Billy O’Shea and horse trainer Denis Hogan.
The Healthy Club Committee would like to thank everybody who has taken part in this Challenge. To date over 50 videos have been posted on our Twitter Page and they have clocked up over 108,000 views. Other club clubs are now beginning to experience a similar response.
Window on the Past
Over the last few weeks over fifty photos have been posted on out Twitter Page @MacDonaghsGAA. Our 4,035 Twitter followers have enjoyed viewing team photos, action photos and photos of presentations. The photos range from the 1950s up to 2013. We have received a very positive feedback from our followers and will continue to post two photos each day. Some of these photos have never appeared in any publication.
