Quid Games Triumph: Kilruane MacDonaghs Raise Over €100,000 in Epic Fundraiser
Friday 10th May 2024 is a night that will go down in the history books of Kilruane MacDonaghs GAA & Camógie club as the most successful fundraiser ever ran. The Abbey Court Hotel was packed to capacity as forty-one brave contestants battled it out in “Quid Games” to win the top prize of €10,000 which would be split between the individual winner and their selected charity or team.
This unique event created great excitement throughout the club and beyond especially in the 6 weeks leading up to the event. Our contestants included our own players, coaches, parents, supporters from the local community and even people from beyond the parish. They were incredible in their fundraising achievements and went way beyond expectations.
The energy and excitement were palpable in the Abbey Court on the event night as the games commenced which tested the contestants’ skill and nerves. Our wonderful MC, Noel Coonan, led the whole show and did a remarkable job. He was ably assisted by his sideline reporter, Damian Lawlor.
As the games progressed, players were eliminated leaving Will Rymer and Eoin Kennedy in the grand final vying for the top prize. An exciting finale to the night saw Will Rymer emerge victorious and his chosen charity, Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice benefited from this by a whopping €7000! In a very generous gesture, Will kindly donated his €3000 winnings back to the club.
As the night drew to a close, Chairman Dave Carroll addressed the audience to thank everyone involved and remind them that Quid Games was initiated to fund the clubs plan for a new pitch and community walking track in Cloughjordan. Everyone waited with bated breath to see if the target the club had set of €75,000 was reached. Much to the audiences’ delight, the target was way surpassed, and Dave announced that the profit from the venture was €105,000! A cheer of delight lifted the roof in the Abbey Court Hotel.
Chairman Dave Carroll was delighted to conclude by saying that in addition to raising the funds for the club, the event meant that over €12,000 would be given back to local teams and charities which meant a lot to the players and their supporters.
The club would like to thank each and every one of you who contributed to our fundraiser. We know that many of you contributed to several contestants. A special thanks to our main event sponsors, The Clough Inn and Austins Centra, as well as over 100 businesses who sponsored players, raffle prizes and adverts in our brochure on the night.
