Senior Hurling
The senior hurlers made the long journey to Carrick-on-Suir and just edged out Swans on a 0-18 to 1-14 scoreline. This game against a physically strong Swans side was excellent preparation for the upcoming battle against Moneygall. The heavy going in Davin Park provided a real test for both sets of players. MacDonaghs enjoyed a one point interval lead with the score 0-10 to 0-9 in their favour. Interestingly, four of the Swans first half points came from 65s. As the clock ticked down the sides were level and extra time looked on the cards. However, Willie Cleary intervened to strike the winning point for the visitors. Team: Ger Corcoran, Paudie Kelly, Diarmuid Cahill, Pat Williams, Jack Peters, Willie Cleary (0-1), Eanna Hogan, Alan Darcy, Jonathan Cahill, Kieran Cahill (0-9 inc 7 from frees), Mark O’Leary (0-1), Thomas Cleary (0-2), Conor Cleary, Ray McLoughney (0-3) and Eoin Williams (0-2). Subs: James Williams and Tomás Hogan.
Féile
The U14 hurlers qualified for the Feile semi-final (40 minute game) with a 2-3 to 0-4 away victory against Roscrea in testing conditions. Captain Craig Morgan won the toss and elected to pay with the stiff east wind. MacDonaghs dominated the early possession and Jake O’Kelly tapped home a goal from close range. A Craig Morgan free deceived the Roscrea keeper to raise the second green flag for the visitors. He added a point from another free; while Roscrea replied with a brace of points Jerome Cahill was moved to centre-forward for the second quarter but couldn’t find the necessary space in the congested exchanges. Craig Morgan brought the scoring to a close with another point from a placed ball. For the second half Jerome Cahill reverted to centre-back and he thwarted many a Roscrea attack. Defences were well on top in this period with Roscrea registering two points and Kilruane just adding a point to their interval total. Team: Mark O’Neill, Cian Spillane, Oisín O’Meara, Eoghan Mulcahy, Jack Dwan, Jerome Cahill, Nathan Ryan, Tommy Dooley, Sean McAdams, Kian O’Kelly, Craig Morgan (1-3), Ben Healy, Devlin Courtney, Jake O’Kelly (1-0) and Luke Dervan. Subs: Kevin Oakley and Jack Dunne.
