Kilruane MacDonaghs News

Juvenile AGM

A large crowd assembled in the clubroom on last Friday night for a very successful juvenile AGM. In a comprehensive review secretary John O Meara reported on one of the busiest ever years in the juvenile club, with a hive of activity from U-6 to U-16. He highlighted the success of the U-14s in the Feile, the U-12s in the county final and Kilruane N.S. in the North final. John also alluded to phenomenal number of games played by club teams, with the U-10s involved in thirty matches. An intensive recruiting drive by the club officers, in the weeks prior to the meeting, resulted in all positions being filled on the night. In 2012 twenty seven members will be actively involved in an official capacity with the club. Chairman Sean Ward welcomed the new mentors on board and extended his best wishes to those who have moved on to positions in the senior club. The following were appointed: Presidents Fr. Enda Burke and Tom McLoughney; Chairman Sean Ward; Vice-Chairman Christy Morgan; Secretary John O’Meara; P.R.O. Gilbert Williams; Child Welfare Officer Sarah Ryan; Schools Liaison Officer Len Gaynor. All management teams were finalized: U-6 Mark O’Leary, Michael O’ Meara, Matt Cleary and Mick Cleary; U-8 Martin Cahalan, John Mulcahy, Alan Carroll, Declan Barrett and Len Gaynor; U-10 Jody Hurley. Michael O’ Neill, Martin Walsh and Michael Loughnane; U-12 Gilbert Williams, Tommy McDonald, Timmy Walsh and Cian Williams; U-14 Christy Morgan, Michael Reddan and Ned Darcy; U-16 John Hyland, Sean Ward, Johnny Peters, Eoin Hogan, Robert Ward and Gilbert Williams.

The U-10 hurlers, who had a very successful season, will receive their medals for the Borris-Ileigh tournament. Special guest on the night will be Tipperary hurler Patrick Maher from Lorrha. All players and parents should be present at 7.45 so that the function can have a punctual start. Proceedings won’t be delayed to facilitate latecomers.

Paddy’s Eve Punch-Up

A Paddy’s Eve Punch-Up, which is perfectly lawful, will take place in the Ormond Hotel on Friday March 16th. This is a major fundraising raising event involving the Kilruane MacDonaghs and Toomevara clubs. Representatives from each club will square off against each other in the boxing ring in ten separate contests. This event has captured the imagination of both parishes and tickets, which will go on sale in February, are sure to be in big demand. Team manager Ger Ryan is holding a series of eliminator contests to whittle down the MacDonaghs volunteers to the required ten.
