Kilruane MacDonaghs News
On last Friday night the U-21 hurlers were presented with their divisional medals and the senior hurlers received their O Riain Cup medals at a function in the Thomas MacDonagh Complex which looked resplendent in the black and white and the green and gold colours. Guests of honour were the members of the Kilruane MacDonaghs junior hurling team of 1960 who were celebrating the Golden Jubilee of their north and county final victories. The veterans of fifty years ago turned out in force and were very appreciative of the tremendous reception accorded to them. Chairman George O Leary welcomed everybody to the function and he congratulated the U-21 and senior hurlers on their success. He paid particular tribute to the 1960 junior hurling team which carved out a famous victory against all the odds.
Club president Tom Cleary presented the medals to the senior and U-21 players. Fear ‘a Ti for the evening Gilbert Williams introduced each member of the 1960 team who received a framed and captioned photograph of the side from our club president. Liam Tierney replied on behalf of the team. He thanked the club for honouring the 1960 champions and he highlighted the magnificent community spirit that was so evident in all aspects of club activities and particularly in the professional arrangements for the function. Liam also complimented the Kilruane MacDonaghs officials and members on the impressive facilities which had been developed over the years.
The club would like to thank the organising subcommittee whose attention to detail ensured that the occasion was a resounding success. Thanks to: Breda Hayes and her staff who served up a sumptuous dinner; Fionnuala Gaynor who copied, framed and captioned each individual photograph; Tom Williams who supplied the amplification and the ever dependable Bridget Delaney who was present to record proceedings on camera.
