Commiserations to the U14s who lost out to Holycross in the U14B County League Final on Sunday last in Borrisoleigh. Kilruane had to line out without their influential centre forward, Michaela Lillis, who picked up an injury earlier in the week. The match started at a frantic pace with Holycross scoring a goal after three minutes, a lead which they did not relinquish until the end. Kilruane on the other hand, were finding it difficult to get scores against a much stronger physical Holycross team, even though they were unfortunate with a ball hitting the crossbar and the post in the first half. Two points by Amy Quinlisk in the first half was our tally against Holycross’s 3-2. The second half was a much tighter affair but Kilruane could not break down the Holycross rearguard as they ran out comfortable winners on a final scoreline of 4-4 to 0-2. This young team lost nothing in defeat having had a great year reaching the county semi-final of the championship in May last and progressing to reach the County final of the league at the weekend. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to Amy Quinlisk who sustained an ankle injury during the match.
Thanks to the management team of Kieran Nevin, Kieran Cahill, Michelle Shinners, Ann O’Meara and Jimmy Cahill for their dedication and commitment to this group of girls who have been training diligently since last January. A number of these girls will be in action next weekend for the U13’s who are due to play Newport in the U13A County League semi-final.

The U13 County League Semi-final was cancelled due to the U14 refixture on Sunday. This match is due to go ahead next weekend. Confirmation will be made at training.
