U14
The U14’s travelled to Puckane on Sunday afternoon last to play Burgess in the County Semi-final. This was a keenly contested match played in front of a large crowd with both teams eager to win their place in the County League final. Burgess playing against the wind opened the scoring within two minutes with an opportunistic goal from a long-range free. This was quickly followed by Kilruane’s first score, a point from a free by Amy Quinlisk. Kilruane forwards were winning lots of possession but were struggling to get scores on the scoreboard. However, Laura Shinners stroke a ball from play which went all the way to the back of the net and within five minutes, this was followed by a point from play by Mickela McGrath. On the stroke of half-time, Amy Quinlisk struck a ball to the back of the net for Kilruane’s second goal to bring the half-time score to Kilruane 2-2 Burgess 1-0. The second half resumed with a heavy shower of rain which made underfoot conditions very slippery. Even though Kilruane were playing against the wind, they took control of this half and added a further three points. Burgess battled valiantly to the end but the Kilruane backs ensured that no further scores were conceded. Full-time score Kilruane 2-5 Burgess 1-0. Team: Orla Molloy, Ali Mulcahy, Aoife Sullivan (Capt), Cliodhna Nevin, Sophie O’Neill, Tara Lillis (B), Louise Torpey, Laura Shinners, Bonny Conroy, Mickela McGrath, Michaela Lillis, Amy Quinlisk, Amy Hill, Catherine Tighe, Meadhbh Heenan, Subs used: Tara Lillis (K), Leah Heffernan. This was a great all-round team performance and Kilruane now advance to the County U14B League Final v Holycross fixed for this Sunday 9th November at 11am in The Ragg Camogie Field. All support would be appreciated for this panel of girls who have been training and working hard all year.
