Commiserations to the minor team who came up short against Burgess in the last round of the Minor championship on Monday last in Cloughjordan. Burgess opened the scoring with a point from play after three minutes and added two further points before Kilruane registered their first score, a point by Lianne O’Kelly after eleven minutes. Burgess added another two points before Niamh Costello scored a point from play after fifteen minutes. Burgess took control of the rest of this half as they scored a further five points to Kilruane’s one point by Roisin Cahill to bring the half-time score to Kilruane 0-3 Burgess 0-10. Kilruane got the second half off to a great start with a point from Roisin Cahill and a goal from Lianne O’Kelly within five minutes. Burgess added two further points as points from Roisin Cahill and Shauna Heffernan kept the scoreboard ticking to keep Kilruane within reach of their opponents. Burgess tagged on a further two points but Kilruane continued to pile on the pressure as Marie Hogan struck a ball which ended up in the back of the net. However, time was running out for Kilruane as Burgess took the last score of the match to win on a final scoreline Kilruane 2-6 Burgess 0-15. Unfortunately, this defeat brings the championship campaign for Kilruane to an end for this year. U14
The U14’s travelled to Ballinderry on Monday last to play Shannon Rovers in the County Quarter Final. This was a tough contest between both teams who were playing one another for the 3rd time this year. Amy Quinlisk got Kilruane off to a flying start with a goal within the first minute of play. From the puck-out, Shannon Rovers playing with the wind, won possession and scored their first goal. Possession was keenly contested and scores hard to come by with some great periods of play from both sets of players. Amy Quinlisk added another point after ten minutes. The final score of the first half was a goal by Shannon Rovers to bring the half-time score Kilruane 1-1 Shannon Rovers 2-0. Kilruane had the strong wind in their backs for the second half and a goal by Amy Quinlisk within seconds set the scene for the rest of this match. Points from Laura Shinners and Amy Quinlisk kept the scoreboard ticking for Kilruane. The last score of the match was a goal by Shannon Rovers which brought the full-time score to: Kilruane 2-8 Shannon Rovers 3-1. This victory earns Kilruane a place in the County Semi-final which is due to be played this weekend. Panel will be notified of confirmed fixture as soon as possible.
