Junior
The junior team continued their unbeaten run in the Munster Summer League with a 6-11 to 0-7 win over Knockaderry of Limerick in Cloughjordan last Friday evening. Although the final scoreline looks flattering, the game was anything but easy. Goalkeeper Eibhlin Enright pulled off two excellent saves in the first half to keep Kilruane ahead. She got good assistance from solid full back Joyce Tooher. Up front Niamh Williams was a constant threat and her accuracy both from play and from placed balls amounted to 2-5 in the first half. Louise Hogan also added a point to leave the half-time score at 2-6 to 0-7. In the 2nd half Kilruane seemed to up a gear. The half back line began to dominate and Shauna Tooher and Shauna Heffernan were immense at centre-field. Up front the pace of both Tricia Hogan and Louise Hogan caused problems for Knockaderry and opened up the play. Carmel O'Brien was on hand for two oppurtunist goals, while Niamh Williams continued to pick off scores. The Kilruane mentors made good use of their subs and Fiona Ryan and Emer Starr made big impacts when introduced to the forward line. As did Clodagh Hodgins, Noreen Maher and Kelly Flaherty. Kilruane finished strong and can be proud of another good performance. Many thanks to Carmel Daly, Tricia Costello, Ann Keogh and Noel Coonan who helped with the catering for the 2 teams after the match. Thanks also to all those who kindly donated food. Next up for the junior team is the County league semi-final against Thurles Sarsfields, which has been fixed for Monday 25th June. After that is the final group match of the Munster Summer League against Limerick side Tournafulla on June 29th.
