Kilruane Camogie News
After a 13 year wait for success at adult level, Kilruane MacDonaghs defeated Thurles to win the Junior B County Final on Saturday last in the Camogie Field, The Ragg on a scoreline of 3-11 to 0-6. The team put on a marvellous performance to outscore their opponents on Saturday evening last. Whilst the scoreline does not reflect the closeness and intensity of this game, what it reflected was the clinical finishing of our inside forward line. Orla Williams contributed 2-5 from play and Niamh Enright 1-2 with captain Kathleen Ryan scoring 0-1. For good measure Louise Hogan and Fiona Ryan scored 0-2 each. This was a game where Kilruane backs withstood any pressure that Thurles threw at them with goalkeeper Sarah Coonan keeping a clean sheet for the match. Lisa Cahill was outstanding at full back with corner backs Orla Murphy and Laura Downey being very effective. In front of those, the hard-hitting Joyce Tooher and Mary Walsh absorbed attack after attack. Katie Kennedy at wing-back was full of running all day long. The work-rate of our two mid-fielders Claire Kennedy and Shauna Tooher was tremendous and our young veteran Katie Starr showed all her 13 years experience.
This is this team’s second piece of silverware this year having won the County Junior B League final in May. Thanks is due to the manager Ronan Harding from Lorrha and his two selectors Joe Cahill and Catherine Enright, backroom team of Bernie Meagher and Diarmuid Cahill for all their hard work and dedication throughout the year.
