Under 12
Last week was a very busy week for our young U12 panel in the championship.
On Thursday with the injured Grainne Molloy being replaced by Leanne Tooher, we played Silvermines in the 2nd round and after losing Eleanor Percy and Amy Quinlisk through injury early on, we battled gainly and teams were level at half-time. A well-taken goal by Leah Brereton early in the 2nd half put us in the driving seat but a late rally by Silvermines gave them victory.
On Saturday, we travelled to Roscrea to play St. Cronan's. Three injured girls were still out which made way for Caroline Hill, Sile Spain. This strong St. Cronan's team put us under a lot of pressure from the start and only for great defending by Robyn Morkan, Grainne Gibson and Cliona England, the distance between the two teams would have been greater. In the second half, we brought Laura Darcy as a third midfielder and this immediately paid dividends, with Chelsea Cooney and Leah Brereton getting their hands on their opposite numbers, most of the play was in the Roscrea half. A well-taken goal by captain Sorcha Heenan gave us hope and with Gillian McSherry and Caroline Hill testing the reflexes of the Roscrea goalie a major upset looked imminent. However, time was against us and we gave way to a better Roscrea team.
