Senior
We finished off the County League with a 1-34 to 1-20 away victory over an understrength Holycross Ballycahill side. MacDonaghs lined out without Craig Morgan and Shane Cleary while Holycross were short eight regulars; Tipperary seniors Bryan O’Mara and Joe Caesar; Tipperary U20s Cathal O’Reilly, Tiarnan Ryan, Evan Morris and Robbie Ryan; and former Tipperary U20s Eoin Craddock and Jim Ryan. Kilruane played against the breeze in the first half and just trailed 1-13 to 0-13 at interval.
With the half-backline of Niall O’Meara, Kieran Cahill and Darragh Peters controlling the game, a liberal supply of quality ball was despatched to the forwards. A purple patch yielded thirteen points in succession without a reply from the home side and a late Michael Cleary goal cemented victory. Eleven of the starting fifteen, including keeper Páidí Williams, scored from play while two of the substitutes also got in on the act.
Team: Páidí Williams (0-1), Conor Austin, Aaron Morgan (0-2), Cormac Kennedy (0-1), Darragh Peters, Niall O’Meara (0-1), Kieran Cahill (0-1), James Cleary (0-1), Cathal England, Willie Cleary (0-7, 0-3 frees 7 0-2 65s), Jerome Cahill (0-4), Cian Darcy (0-3), Cian Moyles (0-1), Kian O’Kelly, Michael Cleary (1-7). We kept in the hunt for a spot in the League final with a deserved 4-13 to 0-18 home victory over Toomevara. This game was originally scheduled for but rain of biblical proportions forced the referee to cancel the game with both teams out on the field. Thankfully, the weather was more benign on this occasion. Brian O’Meara opened the scoring with a pointed free. The visitors replied with a brace of points before Tommy O’Meara cut through the Toomevara defence in the sixth minute and finished sublimely to the net. MacDonaghs raised their second green flag in the sixteenth minute when Conor Cleary and Tommy O’Meara combined to set up the opportunity for the impressive Charlie Kennedy to bury the sliotar in the net. The Kilruane attack looked very threatening, particularly when quick ball was delivered, and Conor Cleary fired home the third goal in the nineteenth minute. At the interval, the Magpies led by 3-8 to 0-9. The Kilruane defence was very solid, with Toomevara reliant on Bob Delaney for the majority of their scores in this period (four frees and a 65).
Toomevara were first off the mark in the second half with a point from play. MacDonaghs responded with points from Brian O’Meara (free) and Mark O’Neill. The management began to utilise the bench in the third quarter. With eleven minutes left, Kilruane held a six-point lead. Then Charlie Kennedy struck for his second goal when he cut in from the right corner and fired a rasper to the net. Toomevara kept battling to the end, but MacDonaghs always kept enough daylight between the sides.
Kilruane had eight different scorers, with all six forwards registering. Cormac Kennedy chipped in with three first-half points from wing-back while keeper Kevin Naughnane contributed his customary long-range point from a free. MacDonaghs clocked up fourteen wides with Toomevara registering eleven. The free count was 15 to 9 in favour of Toomevara. MacDonaghs scored 4-8 from play with 0-11 of Toomevara’s tally coming from placed balls.
Team: Kevin Naughnane (0-1 free), Paul Molloy, Eanna Hogan, David O’Sullivan, Paddy Ryan, Cormac Doheny, Cormac Kennedy (0-3), Cathal England, Matthew Moyles, Tommy O’Meara (1-0), Mark O’Neill (0-2), Cian Moyles (0-1), Conor Cleary (1-1), Brian O’Meara (0-3 frees), Charlie Kennedy (2-2).

We recorded our second victory in the County League when we proved too strong for Ballybacon Grange in MacDonagh Park. We seized the initiative from the start with points from Cormac Mannion and Conor Doheny. In the tenth minute, Martin Grace crashed the sliotar to the net after good work by Oisín O’Meara. By the interval, all six forwards, the two midfielders and wing-back Cormac Gaynor got their names on the scoresheet. In the second half, the management emptied the bench as the result was never in doubt against a game Ballybacon side.
Team: Tom Austin, Danny Cahalan, Fearghal Doheny, David Mooney, Robert Austin, Stephen Cleary, Cormac Gaynor, Johnny Naughnane, Cormac Mannion, Cathal Mcintyre, Kevin Shinners, Jack Quinlisk, Conor Doheny, Martin Grace, Oisín O’Meara.
