Senior

A large crowd assembled in Dolla last Sunday evening to see Kilruane MacDonaghs book a place in the North semi-final with a 2-22 to 1-21 victory over Nenagh who lined out without the services of Jake Morris in the first half. Éire Óg had first use of the breeze and had two points on the board inside the opening minute. Kilruane responded with four points in succession to surge two ahead. After ten minutes, we led by 0-6 to 0-4. Nenagh hit a purple patch with four points on the trot. At the interval, the scoreboard read 0-14 t0 0-12 in favour of the town side.

During the break, the breeze died down, and Nenagh emerged with Jake Morris drafted into the forwards. Five minutes into the second half, Nenagh still had a two-point cushion. Kian O’Kelly fielded a long delivery and offloaded to Thomas Cleary, who, despite the attention of two defenders, rifled the sliotar to the net to put the Magpies one ahead. Conor Austin tacked on a  brace of points to put Kilruane three clear. In the forty-second minute, MacDonaghs suffered a setback when Craig Morgan had to leave the field with a leg injury.  Cormac Doheny was introduced as a replacement. Nenagh tacked on three points to draw level.

With Craig Morgan in the dugout and Jake Morris on the field, the momentum was with Nenagh.  Conor Austin raised a crucial white flag in the forty-eighth minute.  Kian O’Kelly turned the provider in chief once more when he fielded a long delivery from Páidí Williams, handpassed to Cian Darcy, who finished to the net with aplomb. In the fifty-second minute, Nenagh found the net. They slotted over a point on the restart as the pendulum swung in their favour once more. The sides were level with seven minutes left, and it was now a battle for supremacy. Down the home straight, MacDonaghs showed great resilience and composure to outscore their opponents 0-5 to 0-1 and secure a spot in the semi-final.
