Senior

Kilruane MacDonaghs will play Lorrha in the first round of the North championship. This game is scheduled for the weekend of 1st April.  In the county championship MacDonaghs have been drawn in a group with Éire Óg Annacarty, Killenaule and Toomevara. The County CCC will draw the pairings for the first round which will take place on the weekend of 8th April.

 

Under 21 Football

MacDonaghs have been drawn at home to Inane Rovers in the quarter-final of the ‘B’ championship. This game is expected to take place on the weekend of 10th February.

 

Juvenile AGM

There was a large attendance in the clubroom on last Thursday night for the annual General Meeting of the Juvenile Club. The following were elected: Presidents, Fr. Enda Burke, Tom McLoughney and Len Gaynor; Chairman, Michael O’Meara; Vice-Chairman, Mick Cleary; Secretary, Yvonne Kennedy; PRO, Gilbert Williams; Child Welfare Officer, Yvonne O’Looney; North Board Delegate, John O’Meara; School Liaison Officers, Brian England, Barney Naughnane, John O’Meara and Gilbert Williams.

The following coaches were appointed: U6 Mick Ryan, John Casey and Declan Darcy; U8 Brian Gaynor, Mark O’Leary; Peter Hennelly, James Last and Matt Cleary; U10 Martin O’Looney, Eoin Kennedy, Niall Healy, Liam Grace and Aidan Ryan; U12 John Jones, Mick Cleary, Cathal McIntyre, Lennie Gaynor, Ray Quinlivan and John O’Meara; U14 Alan Carroll and Jimmy Cahill; U16 Christy Morgan and Michael Loughnane. The Coaching Committee will be co-opting further personnel in the coming weeks.

 

Foundation Course

A Foundation Hurling Course will be held in Toomevara on this Wednesday, 31st January and Thursday, 1st February from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Any Juvenile Coach who hasn’t completed this course should contact Michael O’Meara 087-2474768.

 

Award 1 Course

An Award 1 Hurling Course will commence in the clubroom on Tuesday, 13th February. It will continue on Thursday, 15th February, Tuesday, 20th February and Tuesday, 27th February. Proceedings each night begin at 7.30pm and finish at 9.30pm. Anybody interested should contact Michael O’Meara 087-2474768.

 

Child Welfare Course

A Child Welfare Course will be held in the clubroom on Wednesday, 28th February, commencing at 6.45pm and concluding at 9.45pm. This course is compulsory for all personnel involved with teams that include underage players.

 

Presentation

The presentation of medals to the minor footballers will take place in the clubroom on this Friday, 2nd February at 8.00pm. League medals will also be presented to both the senior and junior hurlers on that night. Special guest will be Tipperary senior footballer George Hannigan from the Shannon Rovers club. All players have been contacted. Minor players should confirm their attendance with Liam O’Kelly while senior and junior hurlers should do likewise with Gilbert Williams. Attendees should be present at 7.45pm as the function will not be delayed to facilitate latecomers.

Hall of Fame

Congratulations to Len Gaynor who was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Nenagh Guardian Sports Awards. Jerome Cahill and James Prentice (Ballina) received the October award after their handball exploits. They shared that month’s award with the Roscrea minor hurling team.

 

Referee Training Course

A Foundation Course for referees will take place over four nights in February. Contact North Referees Co-ordinator Philip Kelly 087-2863683.

 

Membership
Membership fees are now due: U6, U8 and U10 €10; U12, U14, U16 and U18 €30; players over minor €50 and non-playing adults €30. Subscriptions are now due. Players should pay their respective managers and supporters can join with any committee member. Players can only participate in games when membership fee is paid. There is absolutely no exception to this. All paid-up subscribers will receive a specially designed club-membership card. Non-playing adults, who join the club, will be put on text list. Paid-up members can also apply for match tickets.

 

Membership Package

Supporters can avail of a very attractive membership package which is now on offer from the club. For just €200 you will have a full year’s Lotto subscription, entry to the County Draw as well as your membership. In effect, supporters who subscribe to this package will have free membership — a saving of €30. Supporters have the option of paying by direct debit.

Handball

The Munster Colleges 40x20 finals were played in Cork venues last Saturday. In Mallow, Borrisokane Community College’s Cormac Doheny and Sean McAdams played in senior doubles versus Patrician Academy Mallow and had a great 18-13 victory. In Liscarroll, Nenagh College’s Rory Grace played in the junior singles final and got the better of his Kanturk opponent, 24-18. Meanwhile, in the Gael Linn club competition Jack Mulcahy and Hannah Grace overcame Galmoy, Kilkenny in the quarter-final, 48-36 and then lost out to eventual winners Loughmacrory, Tyrone 39-36 to complete a great weekend of play.

 

Sympathy

The club extends sympathy to: the family of the late John Murphy, Capparoe and formerly Emill, Cloughjordan; the family of the late Stephen Liffey, Dereen, Cloughjordan; and the Teefey family, Ardcroney on the death of Patricia Teefey, London.
