Kilruane MacDonaghs Notes
The senior hurlers had a three point victory over Portroe in the second round of the county qualifiers. Their final group game will be against Drom-Inch.
In the second round of the championship the minor hurlers had a hard fought home win against Kildangan on a 0-17 to 2-6 scoreline. In the opening quarter MacDonaghs were two points behind but had edged a point ahead as the interval loomed. Kildangan goaled with the second last puck of the half to leave the score 1-5 to 0-6 in their favour. On the resumption, Kilruane scored four points without reply before Kildangan responded with a point. A strong finish by the home team saw them reel off seven points on the trot with late Kildangan pressure yielding a goal. Well done to referee Ger Fitzpatrick of Roscrea who used the whistle economically and allowed both teams to hurl. Seventy nine participants enjoyed the annual VHI Cúl Summer Camp in Thomas MacDonagh Park last week. Thanks to the coaches Jenny O Halloran, Tara Johnson, Deirdre Delaney, Jonathan Maher, Donagh Maher, Stephen Murphy and Paddy Williams who provided quality coaching to the boys and girls. Len Gaynor was the superviser and he ensured that everything ran smoothly. Thanks to our young helpers Lisa Cahill, Orla Williams, Robert Ward, Eoin Williams and David Williams who provided invaluable assistance to the coaches. Caretaker Pat Williams had everything in perfect order and Teresa Feighery and Kathleen Harrison provided daily refreshments for the camp personnel. County chairman John Costigan, national Cúl Camp co-ordinator Jimmy O Dwyer and chairman of the county coaching committee Denis Floyd also visited the camp and were very impressed with both the facilities in MacDonagh Park and excellent manner in which the club ran the camp.
