This is Your Life Tribute

Congratulations to Niall Williams who was honoured with a well deserved’ This is Your Life’ tribute in the Abbey Court Hotel by theToomevara club. While his service to The Greyhounds, both on and off the field, is well documented, his contribution to Kilruane MacDonaghs is less well known. In 1943 Niall played in goals on the MacDonaghs juvenile team which defeated Dromakeenan in the final of the inaugural U-15 championship before losing out to Loughmore in the county decider. The late Paddy Quinlan was on the Loughmore side. Niall wore the number one jersey again the following year when MacDonaghs retained the divisional title by overcoming Templederry in the final and went one step further by defeating Holycross to claim the county crown. John Doyle lined out on the Holycross team. Niall played in the 1952 and 1953 North senior finals at corner and wing forward respectively but Kilruane had to give second best to a powerful Borris-Ileigh side in both encounters. Niall acted as secretary for the St. Ruadhans junior hurling team in 1953 and 1954. On his appointment to Ballinree N.S. he transferred to Toomevara and has served and continues to serve his adopted club with distinction. A large gathering from his native parish attended the function. Well done to the Toomevara club on a night that was presented professionally and thoroughly entertained the capacity crowd.

County Draw

Congratulations to Roger Spain Elm Hill Ballymackey who won €200 in the weekly county draw.

Lotto

The club Lotto jackpot now stands at a very attractive €5,100. This tidy sum would be the ideal antidote to beat the budget blues. An extra €1,000 in prizes was added to the Christmas Draw which took place last Monday night. Tickets cost €2 each with three on offer for €5. The club would like to thank our subscribers and promoters for their constant and consistent support since the launch of the Lotto in 1996. It is our main source of income and despite the worsening economic climate it continues to garner much needed revenue for the club. A special word of thanks to our Lotto committee which runs the draw in a very professional and efficient manner and has a tried and trusted system of co-ordinating the large network of sellers throughout the parish.
