Kilruane Camogie News
We held our U10 blitz in Cloughjordan on Saturday morning last. Five teams took part, Ballina,
Burgess, Moneygall, Nenagh and Kilruane. Each team played five games. Thanks to our three
referees, Mary Walsh, Sarah Coonan and Niamh Gibson. Also thanks to Mike, Willie, Billy and
Peter for all their work on the day, which helped to make this blitz a great success. Medals were
presented to all players after the matches and refreshments were served. Thanks to all ladies who
provided the food and served teas. Thanks to Kilruane Hurling Club for the use of their facilities and
a special thanks to Pat Williams, caretaker, for having the facilities in order.
Our U16 team bowed out of the championship after a thrilling County semi-final match against
Clonoulty on Monday night last. Conditions were far from ideal for the match as it was a wet and
blustery evening. This was a very tightly fought contest between two very well drilled teams.
Kilruane were first to get on the scoreboard with a goal by Niamh Costello and were closely
followed by scores from Clonoulty. At half-time, we were down by 1-3 to 1-0. The second half was
tense, both sides pressuring for scores. Eibhlin Enright scored our second goal and Mary Walsh
pointed a free. Kilruane piled on the pressure in the closing stages of the match but were unable to
get through Clonoulty’s back line to get the vital scores. The final score was 2-5 to 2-1.
Thanks to Fiona, Davie and Helen for their work with this panel of players and also Shane for
conducting the training sessions.
