Schools Hurling
Cloughjordan N.S. won their fourth North Tipperary hurling title when they overcame Borrisoleigh N.S. in a replay on a 2-4 to 0-7 scoreline. The team played with great spirit and determination to hold off the strong challenge of a good Borrisleigh side. Cloughjordan enjoyed a three point interval lead and the same margin separated the sides at the finish. Goalkeeper Keelan Troy brought off a string of fine saves in the closing stages as Borrisoleigh sought the equalising goal. After the game Vivian Dooley, Chairman of North Tipperary Cumann na mBunscoil and principal of Cloughjordan School, had the pleasant task of presenting the trophy to his son Brian Dooley who had played a captain’s part in the victory. The school enjoyed a great day out in Semple Stadium in the county final against Grange N.S. . Although victory eluded them it was a great year for the school, which pulled off a divisional title against the odds. Team: Keelan Troy, Mark Tierney, Conor Austin, Mark Armitage, Brian Dooley (0-4), Jack Farrell, Kieran Brereton, Andrew Hodgins, Cian Darcy, Paul Guidera (1-0), Thomas Haig, Rory McCarthy (1-0) and Jonathan Powell. Sub: Martin Grace.
